The Seven of Hearts (ハートの7, Hāto no Nana), also known as Hide and Seek (かくれんぼ, Kakurenbo), is a game featured in Episode 3 of Alice in Borderland (OVA).

Players have to participate in a hide-and-seek (one wolf and three lambs) game that takes place in an indoor botanic garden.

As a Hearts challenge, the game tests players' emotional resilience and psychological insight.

Overview[]

Set-Up[]

  • Location:
    Indoor Botanic Garden
  • Player Limit:
    Unlimited
  • Time Limit:
    10 minutes
  • Starting Condition:
Players have to wear a collar. Collars are attached to a visor and an ear-mounted receiver, which allows for communication.
  • Additional Conditions:
Tools such as hatchets, screwdrivers, and hammers are also provided, and players can use them as they wish.
  • Prize:
    Lamb meat

Rules[]

  • One player is designated as the wolf, and the remaining three players become lambs.
  • If the wolf makes eye contact with a lamb, the sensor activates and the lamb becomes the new wolf.
  • After the wolf role is transferred, the announcement will count to three to let the lambs hide.
  • When the time limit is reached, the collars of all lambs will explode, and the wolf will survive.
  • It is GAME CLEAR for the player who is the wolf when the time limit reaches zero.
  • It is GAME OVER for the players who are lambs when the time limit reaches zero.

The venue is a massive indoor botanical garden filled with plants, trees, and lakes, providing many hiding spots. The visor tracks eye movement and switches the wolf designation accordingly, while the ear-mounted receivers include microphones that allow all players to hear one another within the game area.

Solution[]

No effective solution or strategy has been used to guarantee the survival of all players. The only way to survive is to follow the rules and end up with the wolf role at the end of the game. If at least one player survives, it allows for the game to be cleared, which subsequently provides the chance to clear the First Stage.

Trivia[]

  • This game is essentially a reverse form of hide and seek; instead of one person seeking and the rest hiding, one person hides and the rest seek.
  • Contrary to popular belief, when asked about it on Twitter, Haro Aso did not confirm or deny whether "Hide and Seek" has a no-death solution.[1][2]
  • In the manga, Arisu deliberately sets the venue on fire with a lighter. In the OVA, however, the fire begins when Karube's lit cigarette ignites the surrounding plants.
