Nitobe (新渡戸, Nitobe) is a minor character in Alice in Borderland, who participates in the Five of Spades game, "Tag". He is portrayed by Yuya Matsuura.

Appearance[]

Nitobe is a short older man with short dark hair and a beard. He wears a checked maroon shirt with a black vest on top, black trousers, and a black hat.

Personality[]

Nitobe is a very confident and friendly man who easily walks up to Karube and Arisu and introduces himself. His wide smile confuses them and possibly makes them uncomfortable as he seems overly nice and somewhat pushy.

Story[]

Nitobe likely played multiple games before Five of Spades because of his knowledge about the suits and numbers on the cards. He also claims to have played "maybe five" games.

After Karube and Arisu join the game, he comes up to them and explains what the current card means, additionally explaining that each suit has its own game features, and the number on the card defines the difficulty. Despite Arisu and Karube protesting about Nitobe following them around the arena, he still does so, claiming that they might just be good enough to team up with. The group walks up the stairs to choose a starting position, and then, as the sound announces the Tagger's appearance, they start scooping around more carefully, when they hear gunshots and a man's body falls down the stairs. The Horse Head Dealer notices the group and opens fire at them, so they rush down the stairs screaming. Nitobe breaks off from the two, deciding to continue running down the stairs while Karube and Arisu hide in a crevice on one of the floors. Nitobe runs but gets shot and dies.
