Misa (ミサ, Misa) is a minor character in Alice in Borderland, who participates in the "Sacred Fortunes" game. She is portrayed by Risa Honma.
Appearance[]
Misa is a young woman with short dark hair and straight bangs. She wears a long yellow dress with a colorful floral pattern featuring large printed flowers in tones of purple, red, and green. The chest area and cuffs have black embroidered panels decorated with vivid red and blue floral patterns outlined in contrasting red trim. As an accessory, she carries a brown crossbody bag.
Personality[]
Misa appears to be a kind and excitable girl who does not like to lose. She wants to contribute to the common cause, as shown when she volunteers to answer the second question.
History[]
Same as the other participants of the Joker Tournament, Misa had played the games before, making her Sojourn in Season 3 a return to the Borderland rather than her first visit. However, the games she experienced in the past were not the same ones faced by Arisu and his group. Since the Borderland games are created and overseen by individual Citizens, their scale, rules, and format vary depending on who hosts them. Therefore, Misa's earlier participation took place under different Citizens, resulting in a distinct set of challenges.
Story[]
Misa first appears right before the beginning of the "Sacred Fortunes" game. As Arisu walks into the shrine's territory, he sees 20 other participants, including Misa, who is standing next to Masato.
Misa listens to the game rules attentively without making any comments and observes the others. After Tetsu draws "Great Blessing" (大吉, Daikichi) and screams about his success, she awkwardly smiles. However, Kazuya's warning about the unknown worries her and the others, so they all start looking around, expecting something bad to happen. Arisu assumes that "Great Blessing" means no consequence, so Masato proposes to continue, and Misa volunteers to pick a fortune next.
She confidently walks towards the chest of numbered drawers (おみくじ箱, omikuji-bako), picks up the omikuji cylinder (おみくじ筒, omikuji-tsutsu), shakes it, and gets a number stick (くじ棒, kuji-bō) with #21 on it. As she reaches for the correct drawer, it opens for her, and she takes out her fortune slip: "Good Fortune" (吉, Kichi). She reads parts of it out loud:
"Good Fortune. Wish: Will gradually come true. Marriage: Prospects are good. Study: Work hard with peace of mind.
Direction: West is unlucky."
— The text on fortune #21
The details written on the paper which she does not pronounce are:
- Lost item: It is behind or under something (in a hidden place).
- Travel: Do not rush. Be cautious.
- Illness: Will recover sooner than expected.
- Love: Waiting is best.
- Moving: Do not hurry.
- Disputes: If you entrust the matter to another person's judgment, it will be fortunate.
As she turns the paper sideways, she notices a math equation included:
12-(-3) × {1/4 ÷ [-1/2]2} =
Arisu, Shion, Masato, Tetsu, Nobu, and a few other players approach her to see the equation for themselves. Most of them declare the answer as 15, but Masato proposes 18, Tetsu wonders if it is 5, and another female player claims it should be 14.
The announcement voice reminds the players that there are ten seconds left, and Misa panics. She rushes forwards and declares her answer as 18, which turns out to be incorrect, while 15 is confirmed to be the right solution. Misa is visibly annoyed and disappointed, and the announcement explains that the difference between the given answer and the correct answer determines the number of flaming arrows launched towards the game venue. Misa repeats after the voice in shock, and a long burning arrow comes from the west, piercing her neck. She instantly dies and collapses, while the others scream in horror.
