Story[]

Season 2, Episode 5 and 6[]

Yuzuha Usagi who was on the run, after a night of escaping from assassins, came across and entered a lone house, where she looked for food. As she was searching for something to eat, a young adult lady and male child appeared to see her and the woman passed Yuzuha two biscuits with a towel to eat, after seeing her search for sustenance. Yuzuha thanked the woman for the food and asked her if the child alongside her was her's. She responded that he wasn't and that she found the kid after a came of tag and decided to take care of him since he was a lonely child. Also revealing that his biological parents may have died. Visibly emotional the boy ran away from the two women to sit in the living room, when Yuzuha walked into the living room, she found him on the sofa, contemplating about his life, with his head faced down with an emotional, worried expression. His foster mother then explained that there was only short time left on his visa, Yuzuha also realised that if he were to pass through all of the games and return to the living world, it would still be hard for him to continue his life, most likely being left an orphan with deceased parents. Sometime after Yuzuha Usagi learnt the child's name was Kota and developing a friendship with the two of them, encouraged Kota to continue to live on for the sake of his parents, she also decided to help the child extend his visa by entering him in a Spades game, Spades being her speciality. At this point Kota's visa only having 1 day left.

With Yuzuha and Arisu, by his side to assist and protect him, Kota participated in the Checkmate game, where they were introduced to a woman via a screen, who asked the players in the challenger team to choose a "King", the crowd unready and feeling stunned, could not give an immediate response, causing the Queen of Spades, Riisa to choose Kota as the King. Kota looked visibly overwhelmed but Yuzuha comforted him. When the game began, Yuzuha and Arisu took Kota to an isolated place and told him to stay put, as they would physically compete with the other players and the Queen of Spades' team, leaving him out of danger. During the games, the Queens Team ended up leading the game, as all of the players in the challenger team were persuaded to join her, alongside her three henchmen, trusting that she would be able to protect them as the leader of the game and to avoid dying, this left Arisu and Usagi as the only people to resist joining the Queens Team. Though the situation was looking dire for the both of them, with Arisu's quick wit and Usagi's speed and persuasion, they managed to make all the players join their team. As Arisu guided her, Usagi encouraged the other players to join the Challenger's Team with the chance to go back to the living world, instead of staying in the Borderlands. After they succeeded, Kota returned to his female caretaker, with more days added to his visa. And upon leaving the area Arisu and Ryohei both bid the two of them farewells.

Episode 8[]

It was strongly implied that Kota returned to the world of the living, recovering from any issues, as in the final episode of season 2, a child that could have well been him- based on his appearance was seen in what was confirmed as the normal real world. This male child was seen joined by two adults- (perhaps his parents) walking peacefully on a field within the grounds of the same hospital, Ryohei Arisu, Yuzuha Usagi, Morizono Aguni, Rizuna Ann, Akane Heiya amongst others were seen as patients recovering from life threatening injuries.
