The King of Spades (スペードのキング, Supēdo no Kingu), also known as "Survival" (さばいばる, Sabaibaru)[1], is a game featured throughout Season 2 of Alice in Borderland (from Episode 1 to 7).

As a Spades challenge, the game tests players' physical strength, endurance, and dexterity. Due to its higher difficulty level, the King of Spades also requires combat proficiency.

    There is no registration. Players who are not in any other game will be automatically considered participants of the King of Spades game.

Rules[]

  • Players have to survive against the King of Spades, who is armed with an anti-tank rifle, an assault rifle, a pistol and a knife.
  • Players are not provided with any weapons, but they may find their own, including melee, firearms, and explosives.
  • It is a GAME CLEAR for any players who outlive the King of Spades, whether they simply survive the entire time or defeat the King themselves.
  • It is a GAME OVER for any players who are eliminated during the game.

Unlike all the other games in the series, the "Survival" game does not happen in any specific venue, as the whole territory of the Borderland acts as a game arena, with the exception of the venues taken by other Face Card Citizens. If a player is not within another venue, whether hiding or taking a rest, they are automatically considered participants of the "Survival" game.

Characters that are shown escaping and/or fighting the King of Spades in Episode 1, Episode 5, and Episode 7.

Everyone who participates in the Second Stage games has survived the King of Spades' initial onslaught long enough to be able to reach other game venues, regardless of their appearance on screen in Episode 1.

  • This is the longest-lasting game in the entire series, featured in seven episodes and taking multiple in-universe days.
  • This is the game with the highest death count due to the highest number of participants.
  • This is the only game without voluntary registration.
  • It is not entirely clear whether the visa expiry date of any player not participating in another game continues to count down or not, but most players assume that it is, despite being part of the unvoluntary game. Even though it is not stated in the live-action, according to the manga, the visa extension upon victory is only granted to the one player who kills the King of Spades.
  • Season 3 characters never participated in this game.
