Alice in Borderland Wiki

Juri (ジュリ, Juri) is a minor character in Season 3 of Alice in Borderland. She is part of Usagi's Team. She is portrayed by Nau Nanba.

Appearance[]

Juri is a young woman with black hair held back by a patterned headscarf. She wears a loose mustard-yellow top with red patterns, paired with dark, loose pants. While moving between game venues, she carries a large striped drawstring backpack colored in beige, blue, yellow, and red.

Personality[]

Juri is a cheerful and blunt person who smiles in relaxing situations and stands her ground when circumstances are tense. She is not afraid to pick on other people, and the stressful environment reveals her petty and hysterical nature.

History[]

Same as the other participants of the Joker Tournament, Juri had played the games before, making her Sojourn in Season 3 a return to the Borderland rather than her first visit. However, the games she experienced in the past were not the same ones faced by Arisu and his group. Since Borderland games are created and overseen by individual Citizens, their scale, rules, and format vary depending on who hosts them. Therefore, Juri's earlier participation took place under different Citizens, resulting in a distinct set of challenges.

Story[]

Juri first appears during the game with lasers. She participates alongside her friend Himari and witnesses the first body cut through by a laser flying towards them at high speed. Both girls survive and move to the next game with Usagi and Ryuji.

On the way to another venue, Juri wonders how Ryuji survived in a wheelchair, and he reluctantly admits that he had help. Then Juri notices that "Usagi" sounds like a nickname rather than a real name, but Usagi denies it. Himari realizes that Usagi's father was all over the news a couple of years ago due to lying about a climb and then taking his own life, and Juri quickly notices that Usagi might not be happy to hear their conversation, so she apologizes and tells her not to listen to the newspapers. Then the girls awkwardly move away to discuss it in private.

The next game they join is the "Runaway Train". Juri does not participate in making major decisions, but she questions the other players' judgment, specifically Itsuki's, which she tells his sister Yuna about. Itsuki is ready for a fight, but Juri nonchalantly tells him to leave her alone.

Taro's strategy ends up being wrong, and everyone's anxiety intensifies. Juri hysterically jumps at Taro with accusations but Usagi stops her. Then Usagi decides to trust her gut, and Juri makes a point about believing in her, so she puts on her gas mask. However, the risk results in a wasted canister with a neutralizing agent.

Juri lashes out at Usagi, accusing her of being as much of a liar as her father. Himari tries to calm her down, but Juri remains on edge. When Usagi proposes jumping onto another train, Juri screams that nobody should listen to her. Then two players get their timing wrong and die by hitting an approaching pillar, which Juri also blames on Usagi. Eventually, even though Himari successfully leaps over, Juri does not have time to join her, so she and another male participant remain on the train, doomed to die of poison.

Trivia[]

  • The forename Juri is commonly written as "樹里" (tree, village) or "珠莉" (pearl, jasmine). The exact kanji depend on the official spelling, which is not provided in the show, as the name is written in katakana.
  • Juri is a new character who did not appear in the original manga series.
  • Juri's death is not directly shown in the episode but heavily implied due to the circumstances (no option to survive two more poisoned train cars) and indirectly confirmed by the Netflix Tudum article breaking down the ending of the season and listing the characters that have survived and returned to the real world. Juri is not on the list, and the description highlights "the survivors of the final game", which Juri did not participate in.
