Moro was a businessman in the real world until a plane crash happened where he was the only survivor; he was stranded on an island in complete solitude for ten years. When he came back, he did not really have much of anything.
Later, Moro joined the research team named "Duty", gathered by Ryuuichi Kimari to find Kiina Sano's consciousness in Borderland and extract information from her. The idea was based on Gamon Kano's research on the victims of the Tokyo Meteorite Disaster that had happened six years prior, which led him to believe that consciousness existed separately on the verge of death. Due to the accident caused by Mikihiro Tomii's truck, the medical facility, where Moro's body was monitored while he had gone to Borderland, lost power. Moro and the others could not be resuscitated in time, which prolonged their stay in Borderland.
By the time everyone gathered by the river to discuss their predicament, Moro had already left for Tokyo.
Etymology[]
- The forename Genya consists of the kanji "源" (gen) (source, origin) and "也" (ya) (to be, also, emphatic particle).
- The surname Moro is a combination of the kanji "茂" (mo) (overgrown, luxuriant) and "呂" (ro) (spine, backbone, musical pitch).
