Episode 4 Season 3 is the fourth episode of the third season of Alice in Borderland and the twentieth episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
With time running out and a crash imminent, Usagi's group must jump trains to survive. An explosive game of Kick the Can awaits Arisu's team.
Plot[]
Usagi and her team end up in a terrifying predicament: they have wasted one of the canisters with a neutralizing agent, so now they do not have enough to survive two more poisoned train cars. Searching for a solution in panic, they see another train coming on parallel rails, so they decide to jump over. Not everyone makes it, but Usagi, Ryuji, and a few more players succeed. Just as the danger is over, a different train with another group of game participants comes close, and Usagi realizes that Arisu is on it. Before they can reach each other, the paths of the trains separate, and Arisu's train crashes.
Arisu ends up severely wounded, and his teammates attempt to save him. Tetsu uses his first-aid skills to stitch Arisu's wound despite his hands shaking, while the others watch in fear and hope that Arisu survives.
Ryuji's tragic past is revealed: he once had a student who agreed to participate in an experiment to experience the land of the dead firsthand, but it went wrong, and the girl never woke up. Ryuji blamed himself for her death, even though he was not charged with anything due to the lack of evidence, so he tried to take his own life by causing a road accident, which confined him to a wheelchair.
While Usagi and Ryuji climb Tokyo Tower in order to clear the "Tokyo Bingo Tower" game, Arisu's team enters the "Kick the Can" game. Multiple players die on the tower, and Usagi herself almost falls, but Ryuji manages to grab her in time, allowing her to keep climbing and reach the top with the last button needed to press in order to clear a line on the bingo card. Sohta and Yuna are alongside Usagi and Ryuji, and the siblings also survive the game, which allows them to proceed to the final challenge of the Joker Tournament, "Future Sugoroku".
Arisu's team loses three members, who are blown up by the explosive cans: Shion, Natsu, and Kazuya. Kazuya's sacrifice allows Arisu to return the last available can to the base and survive, while the next one explodes, killing Kazuya and the rest of the participants, thus ending the game.
Arisu, Rei, Tetsu, Sachiko, and Nobu proceed to Shibuya Crossing, as the next game is meant to take place there. They climb up the stairs but end up in a place that looks like the real Shibuya, with people casually walking around.
