"Nine of Hearts, Part 3" (ハートの 9 パート 3, Hāto no 9, Pāto 3) is the third chapter of the first volume and the third chapter overall of the Alice in Borderland RETRY manga, written and illustrated by Haro Aso.
Summary[]
Taiga's criminal past is revealed: he killed a passerby in order to get money for drugs, then ran away and bumped into a crowd of people, who later became his unfortunate co-players during the Nine of Hearts game, "Earth Invasion".
Back in the game, Taiga points his knife at the others and threatens to murder everyone and steal their phones in order to survive in the death game. Since he taunts the others to try and take him out, Onoue grabs a tower, breaking it off from the small replica, and points it at Taiga as a sword, claiming to be better at martial arts than him. Seeing the heat of the situation, Kitou suggests returning to the idea of drawing lots, proposed by Taiga earlier, and takes out a stack of cards. He purposely drops them at first, prompting Taiga to criticize him and assume that he is not very skilled. While shuffling the cards, Kitou cheats and purposely keeps an ace on top, so that Taiga would draw the smallest card and lose. Only Arisu and Yuzuru notice the trick, while Taiga believes to be drawing a random card, since his guard is lowered by Kitou's manipulation.
Having compared the cards and realizing his loss, Taiga accuses Kitou of sabotaging the results but has no evidence, so Kitou nonchalantly disregards his complaints and urges him to accept the outcome. The outcome is less than desirable, and Taiga's frustration reaches a boiling point, so he lashes at the crowd and stabs the person standing closest to him, demanding a "LIFE". His initial target is meant to be Himari, but Yuzuru jumps in front of her, and Taiga's knife pierces through his chest.
